King of Prussia, Pennsylvania: In September, 2000, Regina Strecker
of Elk Grove, California, will open the West Coast's first Safe
& Sound franchise. Safe & Sound enables franchisees to evaluate
homes for potential health and safety hazards and protect against
them with products that are designed to be functional as well as
architecturally appealing. Jerry Strecker, Regina's brother introduced
her to the concept. He is a franchisee operating in the Philadelphia
area.
Formerly a software engineer with Acuson Corporation Strecker, a
single parent, realized that a Safe & Sound franchise could
give her the flexibility she needed and still enable her to earn
the income she wanted. She will give a full time commitment to her
operations and still be available for her son. " I'll be able
to work occasional evenings and weekends in order to take time during
the week to do things like spend time at his school," she says.
Richard Shandelman, a product engineer founded the company in 1992.
After successfully operating the business near the company's headquarters
in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, he decided to franchise the concept
and became eligible to sell territories in 1998.
Today there are franchise operations in New York, Pennsylvania,
Louisiana and New Jersey. The first international franchise agreement
was signed in Mexico in the spring of this year.
The Safe & Sound concept incorporates parental education into
the safety system. All products are tested at corporate headquarters
and are professionally installed to insure proper functioning. A
Safety Advisory Council comprising physicians, safety experts and
health professionals provides on-going direction to the program.
It is the only advisory board of its kind in the industry.
Ms. Strecker, a native of Philadelphia graduated from LaSalle University
in Pennsylvania, where she majored in math and computer science.
