1. Remove and or relocate all dangerous items and toxins and
place them out of childs reach
2. Lock cabinets with hazardous items in kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry
room
3. Have gates properly installed at the top and the bottom of the
stairs
4. Install rigid barrier for railings with spindle spacing greater
than 4"
5. Apply protective electrical outlet covers to prevent access to
outlets
6. Prevent access to toilets and pet bowls
7. Prevent access to scalding tap water
8. Make sure all second story (and above) windows are restricted to
opening more than 4"
9. Make sure all window blind cords are secured and out of childs
reach
10. Replace all two-piece type door stops
11. Protect sharp edges of countertops, tables and raised hearths
with protective padding
12. Smoke detectors should be installed on every floor and in childrens
bedroom
13. Mount a fire extinguisher on every floor of your home
14. Mount a carbon monoxide detector on every floor of your home
15. Plan a fire escape route
